Scenically located at the Mount Carmel slope in Haifa and facing the Mediterranean Sea, Gordon College of Education provides a unique atmosphere and program to train new teachers in the field and refresh returning students through its many programs. The goal of the college is to educate and train its students to become among the finest of educators in both their knowledge and sensitivity to the individual student.

Among Gordon College’s well respected departments is the English Department. The English Department puts a strong beginning emphasis on proficiency and linguistics in the early years for those students who enter in the 4 year BEd program. This is soon coupled with two years of intense practice teaching and methodology with mentors both from the college and in the field working closely with the students. A special two year program for those students with at least a BA who have decided to retrain as English teachers has been running at full capacity for 9 years. These students, many native speakers, meet one day a week for a full day of classes, allowing them to continue working during their studies.

A special mention deserves the program that Gordon pioneered in 1998. It is called MERC, Multicultural Education Resource Center, and its focus is on developing the framework for tolerance and cultural sensitivity in educational environment in Israel.
